The clean, secure, and efficient energy is one of the main challenges of the current era. The electricity as a stable energy carrier plays a vital role in the most effective transition scenarios. With respect to the advances in electricity technologies and the developments and increase in distributed energy resources (DERs), the power grid requires a Transactive Energy (TE) system integrated with the Internet technology. For a consistent development, the creation of the proper infrastructures for the approval of the personalized transactions via Internet and mobile networks is inevitable. The TE is an energy market in which the demand services are personalized to eliminate the mediators and integrate growing numbers of DERs. This is done by creating a platform based on the information technology to create a direct connection between suppliers and buyers. In other words, TE is an infrastructure that empowers any number of users to incorporate with traditional providers in production, sell, and buy of the electricity using the automated controls. An important aspect of this market is home energy management systems (HEMSs), which can facilitate the participation of houses in demand response programs. The HEMS incorporation with TE would improve the performance and efficiency of these systems. In this regard smart home has been introduced as a small sample of smart systems looking for optimal management of energy consumption in the buildings and successful participation in TE market. Furthermore, the integration of smart systems such as HEMSs with proper infrastructure such as Energy Internet would help the smart homes to control the energy consumption and reduce the energy costs. The HEMSs are incorporated with the optimization method that schedules the performance of homemade devices and reduces the peak demand and energy while providing a good level of comfort for the consumers. Moreover, although the HEMSs have to fulfill the objectives of residents and utilities, they should ensure the reliable operation of the network as well. Owing to above, the HEMSs need a supporting market to achieve the above goals. Accordingly, the TE market could be a proper choice for HEMSs.
