چکیده مقاله

Modern Prose Fiction has long been found to deploy a huge array of clause complex types towards the realization of certain generic and semantic content. Being the underlying unit of systemic realization of that contextual/semantic configuration, the clause is a multifunctional construct which enters into various 'taxis' relations (hypotaxis, parataxis) made possible by systemic choices in the meaning potential. These relations come into force when figures in the stratum of semantics (and, subsequently, of context) are linked in order that, for instance, the lexicogrammatical realization of certain episodic meanings in the narrative, or, circumstantial transitivity would be made possible. A given translator of MPF cannot make do without a profound awareness of how these systems of choices in clause complexing are realized in context; obviously, he should also have already scrutinized, with knife-sharp analytic eyes, numerous MPF works before he can conceivably draw upon such an awareness of the dauntingly vast field of such textualization possibilities and choices in MPF clause complexes. What this presentation chiefly undertakes to do is illustrate instances of how subtle and significant such choices would prove to be in the actual practice of translating MPF into English; hypothetically, suppose a 'sequence of figures' that are textualized as separate OR paratactic clauses in the source (Farsi) text would be found to lend themselves to a better translation if the translator worded them as  clause

complexes. The analysis of these and other interesting systemic choices in contextual translation of MPF will constitute the main pursuit here. In an obvious spirit, the comments raised in this study carry far-reaching implications for EFL methodology, especially at the more earnestly driven and oriented levels of collegiate study, training and awareness-raising.
