Abstract

Nowadays, electrical and gas energies are taken into account as the main sources of energy for societies. In the context of the energy system, mentioned energies are highly dependent on their accessibility, and considering energy interactions between them is unavoidable in the evaluation process of power grids. In addition, electrical and thermal loads are two necessity demands for consumers that meeting them through cost-effective and eco-friendly ways are essential for consumers and utilities in the presence of numerous renewable energy resources (RERs) with unexpected outputs. Hence, this paper proposes the new transactive energy-based test system for both electricity and gas grids with a high penetration of RERs along with considering the electrical and gas demands throughout the power grid. For this test system, twenty commercial microgrids related to the Chicago area are considered with RERs for successful implementation on the IEEE 69-bus radial distribution system. The proposed test system not only covers all components of the gas and electricity grids but also can be implemented on similar networks with different conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested test system in terms of environmental, economic, and technical aspects.
